It’s a damned shame that outcast is outclassing the roots right now. The Roots are an integral part of the game man. It’d be sad to see Outcast go and I’d miss ‘em but I couldn’t live without the roots.
I’m from the south, and that might be the single dumbest thing that has ever been said. No really. half of the crap you have on here isn’t hip hop, it’s bad rap. Reasonable Doubt VS. any little Wayne album is an insult. Yeah Jay sold out now, but that was classic, and little is the only rapper claiming hip hop and still selling updated versions of the block is hot. Give me a break. Oh yeah, Lupe Fiasco is from the Mid West, so although he’s got one of the 6 actual hip hop records on here, he’s not in the argument of north vs south.

I’m from the South… And some of these comparisons are just sad. Any Jay Z album is lyrically better than any of lil wayne’s albums. And I’d bet money lil wayne doesn’t even write his own crap. And cash money vs. wu-tang? Are you joking. I completely agree with the other person who said that many of these albums are crappy rap instead of hip hop.
I think these comparisons are terrible but that is simply due to the fact that the majority of artists from the south are absolute garbage. Artists like Cash Money, lil wayne, etc dont bring anything good to the hip hop culture or rap music. The only comparison that I saw which was difficult was Outkast vs The Roots. Both groups are high quality and have been great contribitors for years.
I agree with the results so far, and my votes match all except the ugk vs mob deep one. I feel that ugk was a much more talented group because one had lots of style (pimp c) and no one can match bun b’s flow on certain songs. (Murder for example)

I’m not the biggest rap fan but I love a good live performance. Having seen Lupe and Ludacris in concert its not even a contest. Luda was amazing, Lupe was terrible…. I know this has nothing to do with the post but a few other really good live rap performers are Tech N9Ne and The Game, who really surprised me

Man, how is Nas beating Scarface by that much? Until Nas came back into the fold a few years back, most of his music had been garbage and from what I could see around the net and in the streets, most hip hop fans agreed for the most part. Face’s material wasn’t the greatest but always consistent. For him to be losing by 2000 to 300 and then have UGK losing to Mobb Deep by that margin is almost insane. MOBB DEEP? Are you kidding me. I completly agree with Certain, I was very surprised with the beatdown that UGK is taking. Not only are they southern rap royalty who have been in the game as long as Mobb Deep, but UGK is still very relevant (they had a #1 album and single last year).
Although the Nas over Scarface was basically a given due to Nas’s popularity, I am surprised that the vote count is 367 to 2461. Looking at Nas’s track record he hasn’t had any “great” albums other than Illmatic and Stillmatic (released 7 years apart) as opposed to Scarface’s constant stream of good to great albums, not to mention his contribution to the Geto Boys.

i’m not the largest rap/hip-hop fan but i listen to a good deal of rap/hip-hop and im from the north but there are good artists aroudn the country but most of them like lil wayne and such are crap but the old fifty and jay-z were good but they have sold out. nas is deff back with his new album which is crazy. i just hope rap doesn’t keep detereating into crap as it isnow with souldja boy lil wayne david banner etc etc. looking forward to eminem and dr.dre’s albums though so at least there is still good rap coming out

Granted, they’ve both been nice but if you think about who people will remember 50 years from now and who has had the most certified bangers, it ain’t Lupe. The south has controlled the Hip hop game for the last 5 years and the one state that is has the most hottest rap artist is “FLORIDA” with act’s like Plies, Trick Daddy, Flo Rida, Trina, Rick Ross, T-Pain and own, but the westside still have Snoop Dogg the most consistent hip hop artist to stay relevant through-out the years!!!!
The North, well, Jay-Z needs to bring in the artist and share the crown!!!!
This is all messed up to me…all of the south’s choices are not their best album’s. It should be Lil Wayne(The Carter), Scarface(The Untouchable) UGK(Ridin Dirty), T.I. (Urban Legend), Hot Boys(Get It How Ya Live), and Ludacris(Word of Mouf)….those posted are good, but not the best…
The south is where the real shit is, we go harder, we more real, we got jus as deep lyrics and messages, and fo real we run the game right now cuz we sell more baby! More money more yo problems! bitch get off me!
