Many people may think of the Toadies as a one-hit wonder band because of their popular hit single “Possum Kingdom” that swept the nation in the mid-90’s, but they often forget about their other hits such as “Away” and “I Come From the Water.” These guys were probably one of the most underrated bands of the 90’s, especially considering their most captivating hit single, “Tyler,” never even made it on the radio (not in my area, anyway).

So, as disappointed as I was when they broke up after the release of their 2nd album Hell Below/Stars Above in 2001, I was that much more relieved to discover that they had reunited last year. Much to my delight, they released their third studio album, No Deliverance, this past week.

“These guys were probably one of the most underrated bands of the 90’s…”

The band played a few shows in early 2008 and has recently announced that they will be embarking on a huge tour this fall.

I’m not sure if the new album will be quite as good as their debut, considering that their second album was deemed a failure, but I’ll guess we’ll have to wait to see if the last seven years off have been good to these guys. Either way, I’m definitely going to check them out in November, if for nothing else, just to hear them play the good old Possum Kingdom hits.
